Easter In Monte Verde

Making the most of my first paycheck, Rico and I decided to head to the hills and cross the border into our neighbouring state Minas Gerais to spend easter.

Minas is famous for it’s agricultural produce, which makes it the second richest state in Brazil. the Mantiqueira Mountains, in the south of Minas (Portuguese: Serra da Mantiqueira) seemed like a perfect place to spend nestled in front of a fire place, eating chocolate, only leaving the room to ride horses. (guess who chose the destination!). The name Mantiqueira derives from a Tupi-Guarani (traditional language group of South America) word meaning "mountains that cry", denoting the large number of springs and streams found there. Agriculture, horses and cattle that thrive on the fertile land of the mountain range concede and allocate a place for some Brazilian cowboy culture. We choose a little village called Monte Verde (or The Green Hill) to spend our four free days.

We had a wonderful time, I managed to let Enrico convince me to do more things than just ride horses, which were all well worth the effort…and produced some fantastic photo results. So here’s a wrap up, in photos, of Monte Verde. A testament to my wonderful camera the Olympus e30…
